FIJI DIVE PHOTOGRAPHY

Welcome to the Waterlust gallery of underwater photography from Fiji.  From technicolour wide angle scenes which capture the impressive expanse of Fiji's coral reefs to Fiji's shark diving and the tiny, peculiar macro critters that are found on Fiji's ocean floor.  We hope you enjoy the enchantment of Fiji diving as much as we do!

Fiji Macro Life

FIJI'S MACRO LIFE

Fiji has all the crabs, shrimp, eels, nudibranchs, anemones and critters you can find anywhere else.  They are often overlooked given the  pervasiveness of the soft coral scape.   Underwater macro photography is another level of artistic expression for diver  enjoying underwater photography.  All macro images are taken here with a Nikon D850, 105 mm macro lens and a SMC 1 magnifier.

Fiji Coral Scapes

FIJI'S CORAL SCAPES

Anyone who has dived in Fiji knows how huge the coral scapes can be.  To use a wide angle photographic lens such as a Tokina 10-17 mm provides the largest possible field of view.

Fish eye lenses not only allow expansive underwater scenes to be captured but the concentration of the glass creates a unique depth of field and feeling of immersion.  Backscater (the ugly particles in the water lit up by strobes) can be reduced by being able to shoot very close to the subject.  Fish eye lens also add a characteristic distortion emphasising curves and shapes in the underwater world.

Fiji's Sharks

FIJI'S SHARKS

Shark populations around the world are in sharp decline.  Fiji celebrates its sharks by a move from fishing out sharks of many species to making them into an attraction that brings more than 40 million  FJD to the country each year.   Fiji's sharks are world famous and 8 species of sharks can be seen when diving in Fiji's beqa lagoon on any one occasion.
